CDC Loosens COVID 19 Restrictions

USMA News:  CDC Loosens Restrictions.

In a press release Thursday, the CDC announced that it was loosening its recommended restrictions regarding COVID-19 precautions.  Stating that the country was “in a stronger place as a nation” with regard to COVID-19, the CDC recommended the following precautions regarding the prevention and treatment of the condition that has ravaged the globe since early 2020.  Specifically, the CDC announced it will:

  • Continue to promote the importance of being vaccinated.

  • Update its guidance for people who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines regarding actions for those exposed to COVID-19.

  • Advise that Instead of quarantining, those exposed to COVID-19 should wear a “high-quality mask” for 10 days and get tested on day 5.

  • Continue to recommend that individuals with COVID-19 or suspected of having the condition isolate.

  • Recommend that individual positive for COVID-19 stay at home and isolate for at least 5 days. If after 5 days, one is afebrile for 24 hours without the use of medications, improving, or was always asymptomatic, isolation may be discontinued after day 5. Such individuals should continue to isolate when around other who are vulnerable to the disease and wear a high-quality mask through day 10.

  • Recommend that if one has moderate illness, have a severe illness, or is immunocompromised isolation should continue through day 10.

  • Recommend that those with severe illness or immunocompromised consult their doctors before ending isolation.

  • Recommend that if COVID-19 symptoms should worsen after the discontinuation of isolation, a 10-day isolation should be reinitiated.

  • Discontinue recommendations for screening or testing of asymptomatic people without known exposures.

  • Emphasize that physical distance is just one component of disease prevention.

Although the CDC announced that it would be releasing specific recommendations regarding the above noted provision in the upcoming days, there was no indication that restrictions in hospitals or healthcare facilities were being changed or updated in any way.
