What Are the USMA’s Membership Levels?
General Members
General Membership is open to physicians who posses a U.S. degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or a recognized International equivalent to a U.S. MD or DO degree, are practicing medicine in the United States, and are accepted by the Board of Trustees after a favorable evaluation of the candidate’s ethics, professional status, and professional activities at the time of the application for membership.
General members may attend all meetings of the USMA; are eligible to seek election to serve as a voting member of the House of Delegates (HOD); are eligible to vote for the election of Delegates to the HOD; may benefit from USMA’s any future, exclusive CME products and business support products; and participate in shaping USMA positions on public policy, medical education, maintenance of certification, and scope of practice.
Residents and Fellows
Qualified Residents and Fellows Membership is open to physicians who are currently pursuing a U.S. degree (enrolled) as a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and accepted by the Board of Trustees after a favorable evaluation of the candidate’s ethics, professional status, and professional activities at the time of the application for membership.
Resident and Fellow members may attend all meetings of the USMA; are eligible to participate in the HOD’s mentorship program; may participate in HOD committees; may speak on the House floor during deliberations and debate; may benefit from any of USMA’s future, exclusive CME products and business support products; and may participate in shaping USMA positions on public policy, medical education, maintenance of certification, and scope of practice.
International Members
A physician who has graduated from a medical school listed in the World Health Organization Directory and possesses a valid license in good standing in the country where he or she resides may become a International Member of the USMA after a favorable evaluation of the candidate’s ethics, professional status, and professional activities at the time of the application for membership.
An International Member may attend all meetings of the USMA; are eligible to seek election to serve as a voting member of the House of Delegates (HOD); are eligible to vote for the election of Delegates to the HOD; may benefit from any of USMA’s future, exclusive CME products and business support products; and may participate in shaping USMA positions on public policy, medical education, maintenance of certification, and scope of practice.
