United States Medical Association Launches as Physicians Seek Alternative to the AMA

(Sarasota, Fla.) – Responding to the increasing demand by physicians for an organization that represents their needs and beliefs, a group of physicians and other professionals have announced the launch of the United States Medical Association.

The need for such a physician-oriented option has become critical as the American Medical Association is now increasingly mired in partisan politics that result in positions widely divergent from most of the medical profession with little association with the practice of medicine.

“Everywhere I go, I talk to doctors who are frustrated that thay are not represented by an increasingly radicalized AMA,” said Dr. Julio Gonzalez, President of the new association. “They want an option, and we will provide one.”

The USMA will provide representation for doctors that will span the gamut from Washington, D.C. to the nation's state capitals. The USMA will also serve as a place where physicians may pursue their continuing medical education and obtain supportive products to suit their lifestyles and practices. "We're going to create an organization doctors can be proud of." said Gonzalez.

The USMA's Board of Directors includes Dr. Julio Gonzalez, Venice, Fla.; Dr. Michael Patete, Venice, Fla.; Dr. Andy Borom, Tallahassee, Fla.; and Mr. Rod Thomson, Sarasota, Fla.
